About Outside the Box Learning

Hi! I'm Maria Taylor.  Founder of Outside the Box Learning.

Our vision
To provide children with an innovative curriculum that ignites a passion for lifelong learning. A belief that we can find 'magic in the everyday' and do more, with less, informs everything we do.

"Transforming education through play, creativity, and innovative pedagogy."

Outside the Box Learning offers a wide range of professional learning services to support individuals, teams and organisations. These include long-term pedagogical projects, workshops, seminars, mentoring and demonstration programs.

Programs are results driven, for meaningful impact. Practical in nature, with easy to replicate programs, ideas and tools to bring learning to life. Designed in partnership with you to ensure pedagogical growth is connected to your broader vision and responsive to your culture and community.

Professional Learning

Outdoor Work Meeting

Anything from 1 hour spotlights to whole day workshops.  Topics relating to outdoor learning, creativity, play-based learning (and more) on offer.  Current workshops include the Curriculum Connection Series, where participants explore new ways to use; school grounds, green spaces, nature play spaces, built playgrounds and even 'unloved' concrete areas as innovation hubs. There are four different workshops on offer - Mathematics, English, STEM and HASS. All include a spotlight on the latest iteration of the Australian Curriculum and EYLF.

All Through The Year - Early Years Sustainability and Nature Play Program

One visit per season engages children in learning experiences to explore seasonal weather patterns and ways to play and learn using nature and sustainable materials. Nature connection is developed through sensory play, story telling, loose parts play and STEM learning aligned with growing and planting patterns within each session. Delivered through playful discovery and incorporating connections for every learner. Intensive support ensures a year long thread of sustainability and nature connection is embedded into your service - adding depth, rigour and intention to learning and playing outdoors. Transforming your every day, with nature connection and sustainable learning initiatives embedded all through the year.

Outdoor Learning Curriculum Connection Incursions

Unique, on-site incursions connecting curriculum and learning to your place.

At Outside the Box Learning we design and facilitate incursions for schools and early learning centres to connect with YOUR 'indoor' curriculum. YOU provide the curriculum focus, unit of inquiry, area of learning and WE bring a peak event to life for you, with an bespoke incursion event that ticks ALL the boxes as we think and learn outside the box. â€‹

*A key element of this program is upskilling teachers and educators with a blue print to continue to teach 'outside the box' long after we depart. Professional mentoring is transformative and the approach, supported by evidence-based research. To recognise this, teachers receive a professional development certificate with the relevant AITSL standards referenced at the conclusion of each event.

I respectfully acknowledge the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners of the land on which I live and work and pay my respects to  Elders, past, present and emerging.

I would also like to recognise the traditional peoples of this continent, whose land was stolen nearly 250 years ago. I am inspired by the traditions of learning on land, learning through story and working with community to give back to this country that we all call home. This land was and always will be the land of the First Nations People.
