All Through The Year

An Early Years Sustainability and Nature Play Program

Supporting children's natural development all through the year.

All Through the Year is an early years sustainability and nature play program, built on a solid foundation of evidenced-based, research informed practice. Facilitated by Maria Taylor from Outside the Box Learning

Program overview

Outside the Box Learning offers a 4 visit program, with one visit per season to explore seasonal opportunities for nature play, nature connection and sustainability. Explore the colours, sights, smells, weather and planting patterns of each season, in an engaging and transformative way. Learn in, with and from nature all through the year.

Pillars of the program

LEARNING THROUGH STORY: all learning is presented through story. This means weaving in the story of your place too.

GIVING BACK - planting and growing is a thread that engages our heads, hearts and hands in every season.

PLAYFUL NATURE CONNECTIONS - a showcase of creative, nature play provocations and invitations to play shared with all.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION - tiny steps, with a commitment to taking action today to create a more sustainable tomorrow.

Format

Each visit will include:

Seasonal stories - Learn a poem, story and song connected to the focus season.

Australian Animal focus - learn some quirky, interesting facts of a featured animal. A different animal features in each season.

Creative Creations - create and make something special, using seasonal natural items as the inspiration.

Planting and growing - we prepare something for planting at home or on site, based on seasonal growing patterns.

Seasonal play affordances - multiple stations of play explore the wonderful ways to bring seasonal nature connection to life.

Connections to country - Aboriginal perspectives woven through story and learning some language of the land.

Sustainability in play - we identify and record 1 or 2 sustainable ‘actions’ for the group to commit to in that season.

I send out a fortnightly newsletter with links to resources, creative play ideas, research and more. It's called Create and Play Outside the Box. Subscribe here.

I respectfully acknowledge the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners of the land on which I live and work and pay my respects to  Elders, past, present and emerging.

I would also like to recognise the traditional peoples of this continent, whose land was stolen nearly 250 years ago. I am inspired by the traditions of learning on land, learning through story and working with community to give back to this country that we all call home. This land was and always will be the land of the First Nations People.
