Maria Taylor

Founder, Outside the Box Learning

Maria Taylor brings over 25 years experience of teaching, leading and experimenting within educational settings from around the world, to the table as  the founder of Outside the Box Learning. Her work has taken her around the world, to connect with, and learn from, leaders, educators and students from diverse schools and systems. It is this work, that continues to drive Maria to lift the learning for all children.

Her signature Connect-Ed programs support key ideas within industry come to life in classrooms, and her advocacy work for learning through play and early years education is sought after by school systems and organisations across Australia. Maria currently has a program on the South Australian Preschool Boost Menu with an educator upskilling program to enhance everyday practice.

Before founding Outside the Box Learning, Maria Taylor was an in demand consultant, supporting South Australian communities with nature play, outdoor learning and in nature programs.

On  the school front....

With a teaching career spanning two countries, seven curriculum frameworks and teaching everything from 3 year old programs to year six and specialist areas such as digital technologies and STEM, Maria has lived experience in every area she offers support and partnerships within.

Maria has a Bachelor of Education and a Masters in Education and has presented on a national level in the field of Early Years STEM and collaborated with a network of colleagues to raise the profile of Outdoor Learning across Australia.

Maria LOVES attending to a diverse range of projects at any one time. This includes writing curriculum resources, program design and delivery, mentoring and coaching, distilling research into actionable steps for (busy) teachers and supporting leaders, and teachers, to find a next step, whatever the journey.

I respectfully acknowledge the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners of the land on which I live and work and pay my respects to  Elders, past, present and emerging.

I would also like to recognise the traditional peoples of this continent, whose land was stolen nearly 250 years ago. I am inspired by the traditions of learning on land, learning through story and working with community to give back to this country that we all call home. This land was and always will be the land of the First Nations People.
