Outdoor Learning Curriculum Connection

Unique, on-site incursions connecting curriculum and learning to your place.

Incursion Program

At Outside the Box Learning we design and facilitate incursions for schools and early learning centres to connect with YOUR 'indoor' curriculum. YOU provide the curriculum focus, unit of inquiry, area of learning and WE bring a peak event to life for you, with an bespoke incursion event that ticks ALL the boxes as we think and learn outside the box.

WHY? Because there are multiple opportunities to bring learning to life in outdoor environments in each and every area of the curriculum. There are no limits to creativity and authentic, real world learning.

*A key element of this program is upskilling teachers and educators with a blue print to continue to teach 'outside the box' long after we depart. Professional mentoring is transformative and the approach, supported by evidence-based research. Teachers receive a professional development certificate with the relevant AITSL standards referenced at the conclusion of each event.

A SIMPLE PROCESS

STEP 1

CONVERSATION

We begin with a 15 minute phone/online consult where you share your curriculum focus, challenges, main aims for learning and more. It's very informal and relaxed. We simply play with some ideas.

No commitment is needed at this stage either.

STEP 2

CONCEPT PLAN SHARED

By the end of this phone/online chat we will offer:

A suggested structure [length/style of facilitation/number of students per session etc]

Links to curriculum [the concept plan always covers MORE curriculum connections and goes deeper with authentic, real-world learning.

Potential spaces for inquiry and discovery (this many include pockets of your school grounds rarely used by students, nature play spaces or hidden gems identified by a fresh set of expert eyes!)

DATE SECURED, INFORMATION PACK SENT AND DEPOSIT PAID

Once we secure a date, a comprehensive information pack is emailed to you. This includes ALL compliance and risk assessment documents, detailed plan for the session/day, on the day (logistical) information, links to curriculum, final invoice and more.

STEP 4

EVENT DATE AND FOLLOW UP

All resources are supplied on the day and you do not need to do anything to prepare. At the conclusion of the event, we share a student reflection template with you to take back indoors. Teachers receive a professional learning certificate to acknowledge professional standards that have been a focus for their learning throughout the event. All plans developed for the incursion event are handed over, to enable teams to independently repeat this program in the future. The baton is handed on :)

I send out a fortnightly newsletter with links to resources, creative play ideas, research and more. It's called Create and Play Outside the Box. Subscribe here.

I respectfully acknowledge the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners of the land on which I live and work and pay my respects to  Elders, past, present and emerging.

I would also like to recognise the traditional peoples of this continent, whose land was stolen nearly 250 years ago. I am inspired by the traditions of learning on land, learning through story and working with community to give back to this country that we all call home. This land was and always will be the land of the First Nations People.
